What is Commercial Skip Hire?

Commercial skip hire is the service name for the renting of a large outdoor bin container which is used to hold business waste. You can read about its origins here.

How Many Types of Skip Are There?

There are many different types of skips for commercial skip hire and their main difference is usually its size rather than its form factor. But there are some exceptions such as the roll-on-roll-off skips but more on that soon.

There are four mainstream skip sizes. Mini, Midi, Builder’s, and Large:

  • Mini skips are perfect for small house or garden clean-ups.
  • Midi skips are great for small scale refurbishments.
  • Builder’s skips are for heavier construction waste projects.
  • Large skips are suitable for bulky waste such as office furniture.

(You can find their dimensions here)

There are also Roll-on-Roll-off or RoRo skips. These are large containers which roll on and off of lorries. They usually range from 20 to 40 cubic yards and are used for heavy material such as soil, rubble and brick.

These things are so big that you will need a solid ground surface to hold them (concrete rather than mud) and an accessible clearance of around 11 feet on each side to allow the lorry to pick it back up again.

Why is a Commercial Skip Hire Service Useful?

Skip hire is an incredibly useful service. The large container enables you to get rid of your business waste if you produce a lot of it in a short period of time without you having to renegotiate your waste collection contract for bigger bins or more frequent collections. It’s not like you would be refurbishing your business site every week is it?
