Two popular movements that trend one after the other, Zero Waste Week and Recycling Week aim to help both the public and businesses to be more green with their waste.

Zero Waste Week

Zero Waste Week which runs from 5th – 9th of September encourages everyone to save money whilst doing their bit to help the environment. It actively encourages people to think about the things that they NEED rather than the things that they WANT. It maintains that the public can save money by not throwing money at businesses until they know that they NEED a certain item.

For example, upcycling is a popular way to get the furniture you want without spending as much money as you would buying a new item. Simply by taking unwanted furniture items and remodelling them to give them the functionality that you want them to have, also gives you a sense of accomplishment as well as saving your wallet. It also promotes uniqueness in the item itself, as only one of its kind will exist.

Recycling Week

RecylingWeek runs from 12th –  18th September and encourages people to recycle everything that can be recycled. This year, the campaign aims to tackle WRAP items, such as shampoo bottles and often forgotten items that CAN be recycled. Rather than throwing them away with the usual rubbish, the campaign is encouraging people to look for ‘Unusual Suspects’ that should be recycled rather than thrown away. By looking twice at what can and can’t be recycled in the home, the aim is to help reduce landfill and overall pollution for the environment.

ZeroWasteWeek encourages the public to save money, whilst RecyclingWeek focuses on saving the environment. With both of these campaigns running one after the other, they help to tackle all sides of the recycling debate – save money and save the environment.
